ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ awarded government grant to support next generation of teachers in the ACT

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ (ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´) has won new government funding to support the next generation of teachers in the ACT.

As part of the ACT Government’s Scholarships and Career Pathways to Teaching Program, ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ will receive ten scholarships each year to support future teachers in priority areas.

The scholarships will be offered annually between 2026 and 2029, across undergraduate and postgraduate teaching degrees for students studying teaching specialisms including languages, inclusive education and STEM.

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ Executive Dean of Education and Arts, Professor Larissa McLean Davies said the scholarships would provide new opportunities for school leavers and career changers to enter the classroom.

“These scholarships remove some of the financial barriers and open the door to university for passionate, skilled individuals to pursue a career in teaching,” Professor McLean Davies said.

“At ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´, we prepare high-quality, classroom-ready teachers who make a real difference in their communities. These scholarships will encourage more outstanding graduates to pursue careers in high-need subjects.”

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ Canberra Campus Dean said the university was delighted to partner with the ACT Government to address skills shortages in education.

“These scholarships are a significant boost for the next generation of teachers in the ACT,” Professor von Guttner said.

“ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ has close partnerships across government and industry and is uniquely placed to help meet the ACT’s workforce needs.”

ÌÇÐÄÔ­´´ is the largest multi-state provider of initial teacher education in Australia and was recently ranked number one in the country for graduate employability.
