Background

Alcohol and other drug (AOD) use during pregnancy poses significant risks to maternal and child health. However, there is limited understanding of the outcomes associated with identifying AOD use during pregnancy for women, their partners, and their children.

Aims

This study aimed to explore the effects of identifying AOD use during pregnancy on women, their partners, and their children. The goal was to inform policy and practice to improve health outcomes and support services for affected families.

Method

• Conducted a comprehensive literature review on the identification of AOD use during pregnancy and its outcomes.
• Analysed existing data and case studies to assess the impacts on women, their partners, and their children.

Findings

• Identified that early detection of AOD use during pregnancy can lead to improved health outcomes through timely interventions.
• Highlighted the importance of non-judgmental and supportive approaches in engaging pregnant women in discussions about AOD use.
• Emphasised the need for integrated support services that address the needs of women, their partners, and their children.
