Tribalism's Troubles: responding to Rowan Williams

In 2019, Rowan Williams, Baron of Oystermouth and the 104th Archbishop of Canterbury, delivered the PM Glynn Lecture on Religion, Law and Public Life. Tribalism’s Troubles contains this lecture along with a set of essays intended to continue the discussion that the lecture began.

In this volume, essayists, M. A. Casey, Anthony Ekpo, Ben Etherington, Sandra C. Jones, Cristina Lledo Gomez, Annette Pierdziwol, Kerry Pinkstone, Scott Stephens, Amanda Stoker, Ethan Westwood, Austin Wyatt and Nigel Zimmermann, respond to Williams’s lecture. The collection offers a number of perspectives on Williams’s central claim that moving beyond political tribalism requires the building of a culture in which perspectives can interact and interrogate one another and themselves.

Tribalism’s Troubles was published in 2020 by the Kapunda Press.  

On 8 November, Fr Frank Brennan SJ, Rector of Newman College, University of Melbourne and Distinguished Fellow of the PM Glynn Institute, delivered his Sunday homily where he also spoke about the launch of Tribalism’s Troubles and overcoming political tribalism.
