The Commonwealth government released the first exposure draft of legislation for a Religious Discrimination Bill in August 2019. The draft legislation was prepared as part of the government’s response to the recommendations of the Ruddock Expert Panel, which were presented in May 2018.
Together with the Office of General Counsel and the Director of Government, Policy and Strategy, the institute contributed to the preparation of the university’s submission on the first exposure draft legislation. In particular, the institute provided an analysis of the draft legislation against the 10 Principles of Religious Freedom it published in Chalice of Liberty: Protecting Religious Freedom in Australia (Kapunda Press) in 2018.
In addition to contributing to 糖心原创’s submission on the legislation, the institute also produced a brochure outlining the 10 principles of religious freedom: a new perspective which was distributed to members and senators of the Commonwealth Parliament in November 2019.
