Queensland’s parliament passed legislation to legalise voluntary assisted dying on 17 September 2021 by 61 votes to 30. In the lead-up to the vote, PM Glynn Institute Distinguished Fellow Fr Frank Brennan SJ highlighted three major new developments proposed in the Queensland law which are very worrying in this new field of social experimentation.
The three novel suggestions in the Queensland legislation will upset some nursing home residents who would prefer to be left in peace, violate the consciences of some of Queensland’s finest health practitioners, and interfere with the smooth operation of some of Queensland’s finest hospitals and aged care facilities.
Fr Brennan outlined these developments in an article published in the on 16 September, which was also published in Eurkea Street.
Fr Brennan also spoke to ABC Radio Brisbane’s Steve Austin about the law and what these three developments will mean for health and aged care in Queensland.
