Dr. Qiuzhi Xie (Claire) obtained her PhD in Educational Psychology at the University of Hong Kong. She later switched her research field to language and literacy development following a postdoctoral research experience.
Claire’s current research interests are specialised in language and literacy development, with particular emphasis on the cognitive, linguistic, and psychosocial factors underlying language learning and reading development. Her work addresses early literacy skills, reading comprehension, bilingual and second language development, and evidence?based reading instruction and intervention. Her research not only focuses on students in Western contexts, but also in Chinese contexts and the United Arab Emirates, which has informed her research on cross?linguistic transfer and across diverse linguistic and cultural contexts.
Claire has been a chief investigator and project leader on multiple externally and internally funded research projects, and she has also contributed as a co?investigator on several projects. Her research has involved close collaboration with schools and international research collaborators in various countries.
Her research outcomes have been published in high?impact international peer?reviewed journals, such as Learning and Instruction, Behavior Genetics, and Reading and Writing. In addition to her research and teaching, Claire contributes to the scholarly community through editorial and peer?review activities.
